Dentist

SUMMARY: This position provides preventive restorative and, educational dental services to TBCHS patients in a professional, ethical and caring manner. The staff dentist may provide clinical guidance to assigned dental support staff. The position reports to the Dental Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: The staff dentist follows accepted dental practices for history, examination, diagnosis, and treatment procedures. The staff dentist presents appropriated plans of treatment, renders treatment in an established priority, documents findings, procedures and treatments in the patient’s electronic health record.

ESSENTIAL WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL Practice dentistry providing a full range of dental services within the scope of the practice of general dentistry.

CLINICAL SUPPORT Participate in after-hours on call system as assigned.

PEER REVIEW & QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

• Participate in peer review and quality assurance studies. Cooperate in setting and implementing dental quality standards and policies.

VERBAL COMMUNICATION

• Provide diagnostic information, appropriate treatment plans, and guidance to each patient.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION – 20%

• Keep current accurate patient records using Electronic Health Record.

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES

• Attend local or out-of-town training opportunities or meetings as assigned.
• Assist in the development of additional community based oral health programs as needs or opportunities arise.
• Provide such other Services as may from time to time be required in the judgment of the Dental Director.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Dental Director or the Chief Executive Officer.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from accredited dental school.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:   Maintains current certification and appropriate licensure as required by the State of Michigan Board of Dentistry, Board of Pharmacy, and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration. BLS Required at hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Medium

TRAVEL: As needed between sites and to and from conferences.
